We woke up this morning and could not find the lizard. That was the start to an adventurous day. We started today with yoga at 7 AM. There was a lot of stretching and deep breathing. It was fun and a good challenge. We then went to breakfast and had spicy noodles with vegetables and watermelon. After we went to the welcoming ceremony where we got dots on our foreheads and given a rose. We then had a brief orientation and started into our meditation session. Afterwards we had white rice and vegetable curry for lunch. Next we had a session on mindfulness in mental health perspective. This gave an overview of contemporary mindfulness based treatment approaches. At the conclusion of this session, we took a twenty minute walk (each way) to a local village. Here we were able to see how locals live and interact with them. The children swarmed around us saying "hello", "thank you", and "what's your name". We all felt like celebrities while saying hellos and shaking hands. My germaphobe self used hand sanitizer when they weren't looking. We saw lots of cows, goats, dogs, roosters, bats, and two temples. Once we got back we headed to dinner where I had vegetable curry, white rice, tomatoes and cucumbers, and a potato chip like bread.
It is very common in India to lose power for a few minutes several of times throughout the day. While I was mid rinsing out my conditioner in my very cold shower, the power went out. I was standing in the pitch dark, naked and afraid. I put my towel on and came out of the bathroom, Gabs and I were laughing so hard that people came to check on us because they thought we were crying. I was about to. A few minutes later, the power came back on and I was able to finish my shower. A few minutes after my shower, it went out again. I was having a grand adventure and rolling with the punches as they came. Tomorrow is another busy and exciting day. I cannot wait to see what is in store.
