Plans for the Argentine Patagonia - Atlantic

The links below are some of the main websites that I used during my initial research of planning to go to the Atlantic Patagonia

Atlantic Patagonia

  • East of the Lake District and above Southern Patagonia consists of wildlife havens and quaint Welsh Villages

  • Peninsula Valdés - Great for whale watching - You can take a bus from one of the main cities for about $4 each direction

  • Punta Tombo Wildlife Sanctuary

    • Located about 154 miles south of Puerto Madryn, well worth a trip

    • You'll find dozens of charming Magellanic penguins mingling along the shores

  • Trelew is less congested than other Atlantic Patagonian villages

  • You'll find an infusion of Welsh culture with traditional tea houses and Eisteddfod, a Welsh literary and music festival established in Patagonia in 1875

  • Egidio Feruglio Museum of Paleontology

    • Displays over 1,700 fossils

    • Located in Trelew

    • Can take a public bus to get to the museum

    • Admission is approximately $38 per person

  • Plane is the best method of travel to get to Trelew

Highlights in the Atlantic Patagonia

  • Renowned World Heritage Site of Peninsula Valdes where orcas beach themselves on the shoreline in an attempt to grab a sea lion

  • Southern right whales and elephant seals explore the waters during the months of July through December

  • Hotel Arakur

    • Located in the middle of the flourishing Reserve Natural Cerro Alarkén

    • Breathtaking views of the Beagle Channel, the city of Ushuaia, the Martial Mountains and the various valleys and hillsides of the reserve

    • Mouth-watering array of international and traditional menus at the first-class La Cravia restaurant or, for something lighter, head to the beautiful Lobby Bar or Pool Bar

    • Argentine barbecue, spider crab, and black hake dishes are recommended

    • There are many adventures for guests to embark on within the reserve, from tranquil nature walks exploring the rich biodiversity of the region to more active guided treks to the summits of Turbal and Cerro Alarkén

    • Hop aboard the free shuttle to the city to indulge in some retail therapy at the “End of the World” in Ushuaia
