Nucky's Kitchen & Speakeasy

Ventnor, New Jersey

June 2021

I visited Nucky's Kitchen & Speakeasy with my friends; Cora, Kelsey, and Marissa. It was all of all of our first time eating at Nucky's and personally I did not know what to expect. I did not know the name of the restaurant when we arrived and I certainly did not know that it was a speakeasy. We walked inside and part of the restaurant was on the right and on the left their was a concession stand for the movie theater towards the back. We were told by staff that the dining room was full and that was when an elderly lady came over to us and told us that there was room upstairs and that we could follow her. So, of course, we blindly followed this lady up a flight of stairs that led to a large dinning room and an open kitchen. We were guided to our table where we were able to take in the extravagant scenery. A unique aspect of this room was that there were projections playing on the walls. The room gave off an exclusive vibe and we were all impressed with our luck of how we ended up here.

For my meal, I ordered the Grilled Chicken & Avocado Club (grilled chicken breast, bacon, Hass avocado, white cheddar, lettuce, tomato, and chipotle mayo on brioche) for $16.00 and a side of French Fries for $2.00. My club was delicious, huge, messy, and I loved it! I would give this meal a rating of 9/10. I did also order a side of ranch but it did not taste good and it was slightly spicy. For my drink, I ordered Pinot Grigio for $10.00. It was crispy, light, and slightly sweet; I would give it an 8/10.

For Cora's meal, she ordered the Filet Tip Sandwich (tender filet, mushrooms, onions, and sharp provolone) for $18.00 and a side of Truffle French Fries for $3.00. Her sandwich was really good, had great flavors, and the truffle fries were delicious. For her drink, she ordered The Great Gatsby (Misunderstood Ginger Spiced Whiskey, Sweet Vermouth, and Angostura Orange Bitters) for $14.00. She said it was bold, fragrant, and savory.

For Kelsey's meal, she ordered The Nucky (signature blend burger, Applewood smoked bacon, fried egg, white cheddar on brioche) for $16.00 and a side of Truffle French Fries for $3.00. Her burger was extremely good but messy. Her truffle fries were basic but they were also still very tasty.

For Marissa's meal, she ordered The Nucky (signature blend burger, Applewood smoked bacon, fried egg, white cheddar on brioche) for $16.00 and a side of Truffle French Fries for $3.00. Her burger was amazing! She said that her egg was cooked perfectly and that the truffle fries were to die for. For her drink, she ordered The Bees Knees (Aviation American Gin, Honey Syrup, and Lemon Juice) for $14.00. Her drink was classy, smooth, and zesty.

At the end of our meal, our check was given to us in a cigar box and we were each given a red carnation. My experience at Nucky's was unlike anything else! I had a wonderful time filled with fun and delicious surprises. I would definitely come back to eat at this hidden speakeasy again!
