Last Day, Best Day - 07.30.22

Updated: Dec 18, 2022

Unfortunately, this was our last day in paradise. This day was filled with stuffing our suitcases with clothes and souvenirs. I do not know how but we managed to fit everything into our bags and stay within the weight limit. Isabella and I arrived in Puerto Rico with our luggage filled to the brim, so it was a miracle and a blessing that we managed to stay within the limits for our return.

After we packed and tidied up the Airbnb, we went to Old San Juan. I was determined to get a tattoo. I had been planning on getting a coqui prior to the trip and it just felt right to get it down in Puerto Rico. The coqui is a species of frog that is native to Puerto Rico. The name coqui comes from the unique nighttime calling sound (ko-kee) made by the male of the species. This is a very symbolic tattoo for me which represents my heritage. I got my tattoo done at Red Monkey Tattoos which was recommended to me by a friend. My artist was Kelvin Fonseca (IG: kelvin_tattooart). The shop was clean and professional. I called the day before to make sure they had availability. Kelvin spoke very limited English, but I liked his work. Overall, I think that my tattoo was overpriced but I really love it which made it all worthwhile to me.

After I was freshly inked, Isabella and I shopped for some last-minute gifts and then went to a late lunch at Barrachina. I had mouthwatering steak and sweet sangria. This was a beautiful indoor and outdoor restaurant, and I enjoyed the open courtyard atmosphere. Isabella and I definitely know how to do things in style.

This was our last visit to Old San Juan during our trip. After our late lunch, we made our way back to Condado. In Condado, we ordered street mojitos from a small corner shop. We went back to our Airbnb with our mojitos and relaxed for the rest of the night. We slept a little before we had to get ready to leave at 3 AM for our 5 AM flight home.

Our journey home was long but overall smooth. Isabella had to throw away a new jar of honey that she had in her carryon since it was over the ounce limit. Our flight was on time. We had a family member pick us up from the airport. I had enough time in New York to eat a slice of pizza and then I had to catch my train home. Isabella and I survived our long and eventful journey together and I look forward to our next one!
