I can't sleep 'cause what if I dream of going back to San Diego - 10.22.22

This was the first day of my trip that I was able to sleep in a little bit. Once I woke up, I showered and then Hannah gave me a fabulous haircut (she is a licensed hair stylist). We then got ready to go to San Diego. On our way to San Diego, we grabbed some grub at In-N-Out Burger which was delicious per usual. When we arrived at our hotel, we quickly decided that we did not feel comfortable spending the night there and requested a refund/booked a new hotel. Our second hotel was more satisfactory and was close to several bars and nightlife activities.

We started our night at Serrano’s Street Tacos & Bar. This was a trendy spot that featured Mexican standards and specialty cocktails. I had a Surf and Turf with cheese taco (asada and shrimp with onions, cilantro and cheese) for $7.50. I had a Grilled Fish taco (grilled sea bass, onions, cilantro and white sauce) for $7.00. Lastly, I had a Margarita Flight (classic lime, Tamarindo, pomegranate and mango) for $25.00. Hannah had a Grilled Fish taco (grilled sea bass, onions, cilantro and white sauce) for $7.00. She also had a Taco Gobernador (sauteed shrimp, bell peppers, onions, melted cheese on the tortilla topped with a creamy chipotle sauce) for $7.50. Lastly, she had a Mango Pineapple Mezcal-Rita (mezcal and agave nectar muddled with fresh pineapple, lime and mango puree, served with Chile tajin on the rim) for $15.00. Everything was amazing! After we finished our meals, our server asked us if we were going out back and we had no idea what he was talking about. He informed us that there was a hidden bar or speakeasy in the back of the restaurant, named The Warehouse. Of course, we had to check this out! Our server told us that the secret entrance was through the mirror in the women’s bathroom which greatly impressed us, but he was only joking. The entrance was through a storage door and the speakeasy did not disappoint; however, it was frightening as they outdid themselves with the Halloween decor. I had a cocktail named “Bad Bunny” and it was served with a rubber duck that had bunny ears on its head. Our drinks were good, and the atmosphere was chilling (but in an appropriate Halloween way).

Next, we were off to Werewolf which features American bar fare, brunch, creative cocktails, and karaoke. The atmosphere was fun, and I had a few tequila sodas which were fine, nothing special. My friend Hannah, who is an incredibly talented singer, truly, signed up to participate in karaoke. I think that we must have waited about two hours until she was up to sing, while others went multiple times ahead of her. I know that this location offers a fastpass for $50 to get you to the front of the line but I do not think that many people actually paid for the service (I know I never would). When we inquired about the wait, the host, Art Ruiz, was extremely dismissive, greedy, and rude. Hannah and I both asked multiple times and when I asked, I felt like he was being judgmental of Hannah and was purposefully skipping her. None of it sat well with me and we would have left but it was down pouring outside, what are the chances. Finally, it was Hannah’s turn to sing, and she tore the house down!! Everyone was giving her their full attention and giving her roaring applause. The host asked Hannah to perform another song and to come back to the establishment. While Hannah did sing another song, she told the host that she is from out of town and won’t be back. Aside from the host and ridiculous karaoke wait time, we had fun at Werewolf.

This was definitely a day to remember. I would have liked to have gone to other places within the Downtown San Diego area, but the weather limited us. We made the most of all of the curve balls thrown at us throughout the day and had fun regardless. I am so glad that I was able to visit San Diego. I know that I won’t be able to sleep for a while now 'cause I’ll dream of going back to beautiful San Diego.
