Goat Yoga

Ambler, Pennsylvania

September 2022

My boyfriend, Avery, and I attended a Goat Yoga class at Horse and Goat Yoga. The goats that participated in yoga were all rescued babies. The class lasted an hour and a half and included yoga instructions, snuggle time, and a bottle feeding. Our class began at 6:30 PM and cost $34 per person. The proceeds go to the animals to cover expenses for their food, healthcare, and home. We brought our own yoga mats to the class, but I would recommend bringing a large towel instead (think beach towel) because it will definitely get dirty. While the goats did wear diapers (held up by suspenders, so adorable), almost all attendees experienced some form of accident on their mat/towel. This is also an outdoor class, and you will be placing your mat/towel on dirt/grass. With this in mind, be prepared for your clothes to get dirty as the goats will climb all over you with their dirt covered hooves (make sure to cover up your skin to protect yourself from their hooves). It is adorable and fun but be aware that they are animals, and you are out in nature, dirt comes with the territory.

During the class, I did very little yoga which I was fine with because it was substituted with goat cuddles. Cuddles is a loose term that can also be replaced with attacks. At one point during our class, I had 5 out of the 6 baby goats jumping and fighting over my back. I found it to be hilarious, but I was slightly afraid that they were playing around a little too rough and would accidentally hurt me. Aside from the instructor, there were several assistants who helped guide the goat interactions. Toward the end of class, the assistants lined the attendees up in small groups and had the goats jump across our backs. The last activity we had with the goats was the bottle feeding. This was a delicate activity because we had to make sure that we followed the instructions exactly to ensure the goat’s safety.

Overall, I had an enjoyable time filled with lots of laughter. I would recommend attending a class to everyone! I thought that the class was suitable for most ages. I think that if I were to attend another class, I would sign up for a morning class. My reasoning behind this being that the assistants said that the goats tend to have less accidents in the morning. The company also has other rescued animals nearby and I would have enjoyed having the time to visit the sanctuary.
