Isabella and I began our day by getting ready to go to the beach. As we were walking to the beach, we began to feel raindrops. We decided that our best course of action would be to take cover and get some food. We ate at Chocobar Cortés, which we had been eyeing up all week. I had a choco martini (Baileys, milk chocolate, Absolut vodka) for $11.00, chocolate grilled cheese (sharp cheddar, chocolate butter, brioche bread) for $8.50, and a breakfast wrap (2 eggs scrambled, cheddar cheese, veggies) for $8.00. I was recommended the chocolate grilled cheese by a friend, but I could not stomach it. The breakfast wrap was much more my speed, and I was able to enjoy that. I also enjoyed drinking the choco martini. Isabella and I had a fun and messy time here. I would definitely come back and try more items off of their menu.
The rain only lasted for a short period of time and the sun was beaming by the time we finished eating. This was the last time that we would be enjoying the beautiful beaches of Puerto Rico, so we stayed for a few hours soaking in the sun and listening to the sound of the crashing waves.
After the beach, we went back to the Airbnb to get ready for the rest of our day. We showered and headed over to another restaurant that we had been eyeing all week which was located across the street from our Airbnb named Rakuten Bar and Grill. It featured Chinese, Criolla, and Japanese cuisine. Rakuten Bar and Grill did not disappoint. They have a daily happy hour that runs between 2 PM-7PM. I ordered a tequila sunrise (I cannot recall the price) and spicy tuna sushi roll for $8.25 and enjoyed both. The service was friendly and prompt. Isabella and I are going to call this meal a snack because our local friends then picked us up and we drove to Old San Juan for dinner.
We went to La Garita. This was a fun and local restaurant that overlooked the coast. I ordered the Filete de Mero (Grouper Filet) for $14.95. It was amazing! We all enjoyed our meals as we ate on the rooftop. The rooftop was covered but we did experience a downpour outside and the rain slightly misted us. We dealt with the storm. Our food and drinks were a bit slow at coming out, but we knew that the restaurant was busy and that we were on island time.
After dinner, we walked around stopping at a local corner shop for drinks and then watched locals play music, dance, and sing together. I could sense the strong community bond that tied everyone together.
We then made our way over to El CAFETIN. We got our $5 mojitos, played a few rounds of dominos, and danced. We then went over to another bar across the street. At this point, Isabella and I wanted to head over to La Placita. Unfortunately, our local friends did not want to join us, so Isabella and I did what we do best and were strong independent women together. We Ubered back to the Airbnb, changed, then Ubered to La Placita. It was raining when we arrived, so we went into the closest bar. We decided we didn’t want anything to drink, and we just wanted to dance. Unfortunately, no one was dancing. We decided to take a seat, wait out the rain, and plan out where we wanted to go next. Fortunately for us, we had another pair of American women sitting next to us stating that they really want to dance. Being the friendly people we are, Isabella and I engaged in conversation with them. Turns out, we had a few things in common such as living near each other, and the one lady was even an alumnus from the university that my sister is currently attending. They informed us that they were going to go back to their hotel, La Concha, and going to the private club there. They asked if we would like to join them in their Uber. We said yes. In retrospect, it might have been sketchy, but we did talk to them for a bit, and I noticed that they had the resort wristbands on. I felt safe enough and so did Isabella. We went with them, and we are so glad that we did! La Concha’s nightclub, Fifty-Eight, is exclusive, or at least it feels that way. I am not certain on whether you must be a guest of the resort or friend of a guest to get in, but something tells me that Isabella and I would not have been able to get in on our own accord, although we looked the part. This spot has a full-service bar as well as bottle service. They have live DJs on weekends, and it is known as a hotspot for celebrities. It was a lively and sophisticated atmosphere. Finally, Isabella and I’s over the top club outfits fit in. We danced with our newly found friends and expanded our friendship to others on the dance floor. I wore heels which was a mistake, but I was not going to let my aching feet stop me. Isabella and I stayed until the club started shutting down around 3 AM. We did a slow waddle back to our Airbnb, dragging our tired bodies home.
I enjoyed our day. It was full of excitement. We went from beach babes during the day to dancing queens at night. I felt like we were living our truest lives. I am so glad that I was able to share all of these moments with my dearest prima, Isabella.
