A Night Out at Disney's Boardwalk

February 2021

One of my favorite underrated places at Walt Disney World Resorts is Disney's Boardwalk. My first time visiting the Boardwalk was during my Disney College Program. My family and I are always so concentrated on the parks during our visits that we forget to enjoy all of the other amazing things offered at Walt Disney World Resorts. Fortunately, during my DCP I was able to visit the Boardwalk multiple times and enjoy the many shops and restaurants. I have previously written a post about my experience at Beaches and Cream Soda Shop, titled "You Scream, I Scream, We All Scream for Ice Cream". I was also fortunate enough to be able to enjoy the Cast Member night at Jellyrolls.

This time, it was my boyfriend Ryan's first visit to Disney's Boardwalk. We took the Skyliner from our resort, Art of Animation, to the Boardwalk. We were able to walk around the Boardwalk before our dinner reservations at Ale & Compass. Ale & Compass is located in Disney's Yacht Club Resort and features New England comfort food as well as classic seafood dishes. I ordered the Sustainable Catch of the Day (Pan-fried Saffron-Risotto Cake and Fire-Roasted Tomato-Pepper Sauce) for $29.00. The Catch of the Day was Swordfish which I thought was good, flaky, light, salty, and of course very tasty. The spinach served with the meal was good but also a tad too salty. The Fire-Roasted Tomato-Pepper Sauce was spicy and sweet, I would have liked more of the tomato flavor and a little less of the spice. Lastly, I think that the Saffron-Risotto Cake was crispy and flavorful. Overall, it was a well composed dish when all ate together but only a decent dish when all of the components were not ate together. I would give my meal an 8.5 and I thought it was a filling dish. I also had Benvolio Pinot Grigio, Friuli for $10.00 with my meal. I thought that the wine was bitter at first but then it had a dull sweet aftertaste. The wine was dry, light bodied, and it began to taste better over time. Ryan ordered Cabernet-Braised Short Ribs (Roasted Vegetable Mash and Barbecue Demi) for $27.00. He said that his Short Ribs were cooked to perfection and tasted incredible, however, he said that it was slightly fatty but that the fattiness added to the flavor of the meat. He said that the Mash was seasoned well and that it had vegetables in it that he was unaware of. Ryan said the the Mash was slightly crunchy and had a garlic taste. Lastly, he said that the sauce complimented the meat well and that the arugula was the perfect side dish, light and cleansing. He rated his meal as a 9 overall. He also had Schöfferhofer Pink Grapefruit Hefeweizen - Germany for $9.25. He enjoyed his German beer a lot! Ryan and I both really enjoyed our meals as well as the atmosphere at Ale & Compass. We would defiantly come back to enjoy more meals here in the future!

After our meal, we continued to walk around the Boardwalk. We went into Thimbles and Threads to do some light shopping. After we thought about grabbing another drink at AbracadaBar but it was slightly too crowded for my comfort level. We decided to end the night and take the ferry over to the Skyliner which then took us back to our resort.
