A Local Tourist - 07.24.22

Updated: Dec 18, 2022

Isabella, my cousin, and I started our day off in Condado. We had our first sit down meal at Pannes. We ordered tostones for $5.00 to share. They were good, not too greasy, but also not too flavorful. As a Puerto Rican in Puerto Rico, these are a must have. I ordered the Crazy Pollo!, which was crispy chicken, Swiss cheese, mayo, lettuce, tomatoes, and a side of marinara sauce for dunking for $13.99. My sandwich was decent. Isabella ordered the Famous Royal French Toast, which had Nutella and strawberries for $15.98. Her French toast was good, but she had a difficult time cutting it with the given utensils and plate. Our day in Condado consisted of a self-guided exploration tour where we saw beaches, Laguna del Condado, restaurants, and shops. We walked for miles. It was exhausting but exhilarating.

After our exploration adventure, Isabella and I rested for a bit in our Airbnb. We planned out the rest of our trip and filled it with excursions. We then went out for dinner at Kana Restaurant & Rum Bar in Condado. The environment was warm and welcoming, but the service was on speed island time. I ordered Steak Fajita Tacos, which had Pico de Gallo, cabbage, cheese, guacamole, and sour cream for $12.99. I also had the Guava Cosmo (Grey Goose Vodka, lime juice, guava juice, simple syrup, orange peel) for $12 and the Lavender Margarita (Jimador reposado tequila, lime juice, Violette liqueur, agave, dehydrated lime) for $12. I really enjoyed my food and drinks, everything was delicious!

Once we were nice and full, we met up with our local friends at El Marullo. This was such an amazing local place that I would have never gotten the opportunity to experience if it wasn’t for our new friends. Everyone at El Marullo was like a family. I had so much fun dancing and listening to the beautiful karaoke singing. Countless songs later, we left and walked around the streets. We went to some other local bars, danced, and drank in the streets alongside the locals.

This day is one that I will always cherish. I fell in love with Condado and the people of Puerto Rico, my people. I fell even more in love with my heritage, and I felt like I truly belonged. I knew that this trip was going to be one filled with joy and belonging.
