A Bump in the Road - 08.11.19

Updated: Aug 24, 2020

Today is our big travel day! I began my day by showering and packing up my things. I then had three hard boiled eggs for breakfast. We went into town after breakfast to get some snacks and I got skittles and Brookside chocolate covered blueberries. The art pictured below is some local progressive art that we saw on our walk which shows the importance of caring for our environment. After, we went back to the hotel to bring our luggage down. Seconds before we got on the elevator to take our luggage to the lobby, there was a power outage. This scared me so much that I refused to get on the elevator. The bellboy and one of our tour guides took my luggage in the elevator while I took the stairs. We then walked to the train. We were on the train for about 2 hours and for half the time there was a lady who was practically sitting on me. After we got off the train we had to pay 5 rupees to use the bathroom that did not have toilet paper or hand dryers. Luckily, I was able to use a real toilet and we brought a roll of toilet paper in with us. We then had to wait about a hour for our busses to come. While we waited we had snacks and played card games. Finally, our busses arrived and they were quite small fitting 15 of us total. On the bus we played games with each other. It was beautiful to look out at all the mountains and palm trees. It was definitely monsoon season, we saw water up to the tops of palm trees. Our bus also got a flat tire about half way through the trip. We pulled over in a small town and went to a pizza shop. The pizza was frozen and tasted like it was made in an easy bake oven. Of course, it began to downpour while we were outside. Following our luck was a power outage that occured as we were eating outside of the pizza shop in the rain. We finally arrived at our hotel at 11:30 PM. However, our hotel was super boujee with two glass elevators, a fish tank, and a large entrance where you could see all 6 floors. The room had hardwood floors and had two full size beds that were super comfortable. I was really exhausted and ready for bed.
